3 face charges in Broadway Mall robbery try, police say

Three males — one a 15-year-old who was not named — were arrested Wednesday at the MercyFirst Youth Facility in Syosset on robbery-related charges, Nassau County police said.

Police said the three attempted to rob a 28-year-old woman in the parking lot at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville on Sept. 21, taking her wallet and cellphone.

Earlier in the month, police said, two of the three, Brian Ramos, 18, and the unnamed 15-year-old, also burglarized Cousin’s Pasta and Pizza on Jackson Avenue in Syosset on Sept. 19 — breaking through a side window, stealing a cash register.

Ramos, the unnamed juvenile and Andy Garcia, 16, were charged with first-degree attempted robbery in connection with the Hicksville incident, police said.

Garcia, Ramos and the unnamed juvenile also were charged with second-degree attempted robbery. Ramos and the unnamed juvenile were charged additionally with third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief. All face arraignment on Thursday, police said.

Police said that in the attempted robbery at the Broadway Mall, the victim told investigators that the three approached her car and that one of the teens told her he had a handgun wrapped in a shirt. One of the suspects then opened her car door while another demanded her wallet and phone, police said. Instead of handing over the items, police said, the woman drove off — leaving the three empty-handed. There were no injuries.

After an investigation, detectives arrested the three Wednesday at the Mercy First facility on Convent Road.
