Three teenagers were stabbed Monday afternoon while walking along a path in Hempstead Lake State Park, authorities said.

State Park Police are searching for the suspects, said Randy Simons, a spokesman for New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation.

The incident happened shortly after 3:10 p.m. and remains under investigation, Simons said.

News 12 Long Island, quoting unnamed sources, reported Monday evening the three teens were confronted by another group of teens, who attacked with knives and a machete. The station reported the larger group of teens, as many as six, may be from Hempstead High School.

Nassau County police are assisting but did not release additional information.
