A Sound Beach man was driving drunk when he crashed his sport utility vehicle in Clermont Saturday, partially ejecting his passenger and killing him, State Police said.
Andrew Casey, 22, is charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, a felony; driving while intoxicated; and an unclassified misdemeanor, police said.
His passenger, Andrew Clarke, 28, of Red Hook, who was partially ejected, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Casey was driving north in a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer when he left the roadway on the eastern shoulder, striking several trees and a utility pole before coming to a stop in an embankment, police said Sunday in a news release.
Troopers interviewing Casey determined he was intoxicated at the time of the crash; he was arrested before being taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.
Casey was arraigned and remanded to the Columbia County jail without bail.
Toxicology results are pending and the crash remains under investigation, police said.
