Armed robbers fill backpacks then flee Verizon store, cops say

One man had a silver handgun when he entered the Verizon store on Jericho Turnpike in Bellerose Terrace on Tuesday evening, police said. The other carried “two large backpacks.”

The two suspects then forced employees to a rear storage area, where they filled the backpacks with “an undetermined amount of electronic merchandise” before fleeing the scene on foot west on Jericho, Nassau County police said.

The robbery took place at about 8:30 p.m.

Police said no customers were in the store at the time — and no one was injured.

The first suspect is described as being about 5-foot-8. Police said he wore blue jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt, black adidas sneakers and gloves. He carried the silver handgun.

Police said the second suspect was taller than the first, maybe about 5-foot-11 with “a stocky build,” and wore camouflage shorts, a dark hooded shirt and gloves. He carried the backpacks.

Major Case Bureau detectives are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will remain confidential, and callers are eligible for a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
