A masked gunman and his accomplice held up a Merrick AT&T store Monday night, making off with cash and garbage bags filled with cellphones, Nassau County police said.

Seventh Squad detectives said the holdup happened at about 9 p.m. at the store at 186 Merrick Rd.

The gunman, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark sweatpants and with a dark cloth covering his face, entered the store showing a black handgun. He confronted a store employee and forced him to the back of the building where the manager and another employee were concluding the day’s business, police said.

He directed the two employees into a restroom, then ordered the manager to the stockroom. The gunman then had the manager fill garbage bags with cellphones and had him open the store safe, where he removed an undisclosed amount of cash.

He left through a rear door, and a witness said he and another suspect loaded the bags of phones into the trunk of a dark-colored four-door car.

Both men then drove off west on Merrick Road.

No injuries were reported.
