Baldwin man charged with possession of child porn, DA says

A Baldwin man is facing felony charges after, prosecutors said, he was found with child porn on his home computer.

Police arrested Andrew Kostyshyn-Gruber, 30, at his home in Baldwin and charged him with five counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child. Officers said they observed Kostyshyn-Gruber collecting the images over the Internet between July 2015 and February 2016 and tracked the photos to his home computer.

Kostyshyn-Gruber’s computer was seized when police searched his house.

Kostyshyn-Gruber was arraigned Wednesday in Mineola before District Court Judge Paul Meli, who set bail of $3,000 cash or bond for each count, or $15,000 total bond or cash. He faces 1 1⁄3 to 4 years in prison if convicted.

“Crimes against children are among the most detestable we deal with as prosecutors and we will do everything in our power to hold criminals who possess or traffic in child pornography accountable for their actions,” Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said in a statement.

Kostyshyn-Gruber is due back in court on Feb. 26. He is being represented by Legal Aid, which does not comment on cases.
