Suffolk detectives are searching for a suspect who they believe pulled off a robbery at a bank in Holbrook and an attempted robbery at another bank in Bay Shore 30 minutes earlier on Monday morning.

Major Case Unit detectives said a man who was described as standing between 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 5 feet, 7 inches, with a thin build and slight mustache, entered Chase Bank at 537 E. Main St. in Bay Shore, at 9:11 a.m., handed the teller a note demanding cash, but left abruptly without any money and entered a waiting car on Saxon Avenue.

The 35- to 40-year-old man, who witnesses said was wearing jeans with white sneakers, sunglasses, and a dark blue-and-white bandanna under a New York Jets baseball hat, is also believed to be the suspect who entered a Bank of America branch at 300 Union Ave. in Holbrook half an hour later.

He handed the teller a note demanding cash and left with money when the teller complied.

That man was described similarly — about 45 to 50 years old and standing between 5 feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 7 inches, and wearing a black and white bandanna, a black zip-up fleece and sunglasses.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on these cases to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
