A Bethpage man, who police said drove through a toll on the Jersey City side of the Holland Tunnel without paying Wednesday, was arrested and charged with theft of service, bail jumping and other crimes after police found he had 123 active violations totaling almost $8,000 in tolls and fees.
Francisco X. Fritsch, 31, was also found in possession of what appeared to be crack, heroin and a drug spoon and drug pipe with suspected narcotics residue on them, Port Authority Police said. An investigation found he had two active warrants, both of them in Newark, New Jersey, police said.
Police said the theft happened at about 12:30 a.m., when Fritsch drove his 2008 Nissan Sentra through the toll lane without paying. Stopped by PA police, authorities said, Fritsch could not produce a valid EZPass tag. An investigation also revealed the outstanding violations, totaling $7,970.
Fritsch was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft of service, bail jumping and with having a controlled substance in a motor vehicle. Arraignment details were not immediately available.
