Cops: Bicyclist found dead in East Patchogue was hit-run victim

A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash in East Patchogue Saturday night and authorities are seeking the public’s help in finding the driver, Suffolk County police said.

The victim was identified as William Griffin, 63, of East Patchogue.

According to police, Fifth Precinct officers responded to Falcon Avenue, near East Lakewood Street, after a passing motorist called 911 shortly after 6:30 p.m. to report a body in the roadway.

Police said an investigation found Griffin had been struck by a vehicle that fled. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the hit-and-run to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
