Body found in Suffolk backyard victim of violence, police say

Violence killed the young male whose skeletal remains were found last March in the backyard of a Centereach home, Suffolk County police said Wednesday.

The male victim, a teen or young adult aged 15 to 21 years old, was found March 15 in the backyard on Jay Street, police said.

He stood 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-5 and wore sneakers size 4 1/2 men's, police said in a statement that did not say what type of violent act killed him.

"He is believed to have been dead for approximately one year prior to finding the body," Suffolk police said in a statement.
