A Centereach man was high on drugs early Friday when he narrowly missed hitting another vehicle while driving the wrong way on Sunrise Highway near Remsenburg, State Police said.

Troopers patrolling the highway at about 1:45 a.m. near Exit 62 saw a vehicle driving westbound in the eastbound lanes, according to a news release.

They stopped the vehicle “after it narrowly missed striking a vehicle which was eastbound on State Route 27,” the release said.

John Amorusocusack, 24, was arrested for driving while his ability was impaired by drugs and taken to the Riverside barracks, where he was held for arraignment Friday, police said.
