Nassau police have arrested an Arizona man in connection with the early morning armed robbery Monday of a gas station in Bellerose Village, police said.
Officers who responded to Conoco Gas at 24802 Jericho Tpke. for an unrelated call “came upon a robbery in progress” and arrested Jean Volcy, 36, of East Speed Way Boulevard in Touissant, Arizona, who was holding up the establishment with a gun at 1:55 a.m., Third Squad detectives said.
After a search, police said they recovered a handgun, two magazines with ammunition and they said they also discovered Volcy was wearing a body vest.
Volcy is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful wearing of a body vest and two counts of unlawful possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
Volcy was represented at arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead by the Legal Aid Society, which does not coment on its cases. He was held without bail and is scheduled to return to court on Wednesday, according to court records.
Police did not have details on the unrelated call that drew the officers to the gas station.
