The owner of a Holbrook variety store accepted more than $250,000 worth of merchandise then refused to pay the distributor for the goods, Suffolk County police said Tuesday.
Anthony Dimase, who owns Everything Goes Discount Variety Store at the SunVet mall on Sunrise Highway, is charged with two counts of second-degree grand larceny.
Dimase, 55, of Shady Lane in Coram, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
He was arrested Monday at about 12:30 p.m., after an investigation revealed he didn’t pay for $256,545 in goods received from suppliers, according to detectives from the Identity Theft Section.
Police said Dimase got two January shipments from a Los Angeles distributor — children’s sandals valued at $14,100 and Plumber’s Hero, which unclogs drains, worth $89,625.
He refused to pay for the sandals, and then accepted delivery of the Plumber’s Hero shipment after the distributor told him to refuse delivery, police said.
Dimase refused to make any payments for either shipment or return them to the supplier, police said in a news release.
Another distributor from Suffolk County then told police it had shipped $152,820 in toys to Dimase in December but had not received payment, the release said.
The investigation is continuing, police said.
