Cops: Man charged with public lewdness in Carle Place

A 53-year-old man from a rural upstate town was doing more than looking for reading material at a Barnes & Noble in Carle Place, Nassau County police said Thursday.

They arrested Frank Lorusso Wednesday at the Third Precinct, charging him with two counts of public lewdness - alleging that Lorusso was observed in the store twice in March with his hand in his pocket, touching himself in his "groin area" while ogling female shoppers.

Lorusso, of 3337 County Hwy. 26 in Hamden, a rural town in Delaware County, was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said the incidents took place on March 4 and March 17 at the Barnes & Noble store at 91 Old Country Rd.

In the first incident, police said the victim, 28, was in the magazine section of the store - and saw Lorusso "kneeling next to her with his hand in his pants pocket" and masturbating.

The alleged incident took place at 9:05 p.m. and police said the woman immediately left the store and notified police.

The second incident took place at 2:30 p.m. on March 17, police said. Then, police said, a 24-year-old woman observed Lorusso "looking at her while his hand was in his pants pocket" and masturbating. She also left the store and notified police.
