A would-be bank robber didn’t get the cash when he tried to rob a bank last month in Medford. But Suffolk County cops did get a photo of the suspect, whom they hope the public can help identify.

Police said a man, wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap with a stocking over his face, entered the Chase bank branch at 2271 Rte. 112 about 5 p.m. June 22, approached a teller, placed a plastic bag on the counter — and demanded cash. The teller backed away from the counter, police said, and the would-be robber then fled empty-handed.

On Wednesday police released surveillance photos from the scene of the attempted robbery, and investigators are asking anyone who might recognize the suspect or have any information about the incident to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477.

All calls will be kept confidential, and callers are eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to an arrest in the case, police said.
