Cops probe Franklin Square bagel shop break-in, burglary try

Nassau County’s Fifth Squad is investigating a burglary early Tuesday at a Franklin Square bagel shop, as well as an attempted burglary at an Italian ice shop right next door.

On arriving at work, an employee of Bagel on the Square, 529 Franklin Ave., discovered the store to be ransacked, and called police at 3:17 a.m., police said. The employee found that entry was gained by cutting a hole in the roof of the bathroom, with an undetermined amount of cash taken.

Police place the estimated time of the burglary at around 2 a.m.

While investigating that, responding officers noticed a second hole in the roof of Ralph’s Italian Ices, 531 Franklin Ave. The owner was notified, and it was determined that entry had not been made into the store, police said.

The timing of that attempted burglary was placed at around 2:45 a.m., police said.
