A Seaford man faces charges in a Father’s Day attack on his 92-year-old mother that prompted neighbors to come to her aid, police said.
Gregory Zakaluk, 55, was charged with endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly adult and second-degree assault/injuring a victim 65 years or older after his arrest Sunday at 10:18 p.m., according to Nassau County police and court records.
Those court records show Zakaluk was arraigned Monday in First District Court in Hempstead and was ordered held on $5,000 bond or $2,500 cash bail — neither of which was posted.
Records indicate a temporary order of protection also was issued by the court against Zakaluk, who is due back in court Wednesday.
Police said the attack in Seaford began Sunday as a verbal argument between Zakaluk and his mother, whose name was not released by authorities.
In a written account of the incident, police said: “As the argument escalated, the victim walked out of her residence and was followed by the defendant.”
Police said Zakaluk then “became physical” with his mother and “dragged her across the concrete towards the house.” The victim screamed, and neighbors came to her assistance, police said.
An investigation determined the woman had “suffered injuries and bruising to her forearms and left leg,” police said. She was examined by a police medic at the scene — but declined further treatment, police said.
The son was arrested without incident.
