Cops seek Mercedes-Benz in hit-run of N. Bay Shore pedestrian

Detectives are looking for a Mercedes-Benz ML sport utility vehicle police said was involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a man seriously injured last month in North Bay Shore.

The victim was found unconscious on Candlewood Road, west of Fifth Avenue, at 10:10 p.m. April 21. He was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of what Suffolk County police called “serious injuries.”

Police said detectives believe the vehicle involved was a 2006 to 2008 ML Mercedes and that the sport utility vehicle likely sustained damage to the driver-side front-end fender — as well as damage to the light housing. Police have not said what evidence from the vehicle may have been found at the scene. The color of the vehicle has not been determined, police said.

Investigators ask anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will remain confidential. Callers are eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
