Cops: Snowmobile suspected of damaging Riverhead golf course

The Cherry Creek Golf Course in Riverhead was damaged by what appears to be a snowmobile, Riverhead police said in a news release Sunday.

Management of the golf course, located at 900 Reeves Ave., called police after discovering that two putting greens, sand traps and tee boxes were damaged, and that tire tracks were running through the area.

Police said it appears the criminal mischief occurred during or after the recent snowfall.

The damage was estimated in the thousands of dollars, officials said.

The investigation is ongoing, and those with information are asked to call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500, extension 321.
