A man and a teenager were arrested Friday night and charged with attempted murder after police say they assaulted two 17-year-olds at a Hempstead butcher shop last month.
Kevin Fuentes Vasquez, 20, of Hempstead, and Marcos Velasquez, 16, of Uniondale, have been charged with second-degree attempted murder. Vasquez is also charged with fourth-degree possession of a weapon.
Nassau County police said Vasquez and Velasquez walked into R&E Butcher Shop and confronted two teenage boys on July 25 about 6:30 p.m. Velasquez began punching one victim, police said, while Vasquez used a folding knife to repeatedly stab the other teen. The two defendants then fled on foot.
Police said the stabbing victim was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries.
Police said they arrested Vasquez and Velasquez on Friday, and both remained in custody after they were arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead, records show.
Vasquez was represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which has a policy of not commenting during the early stage of a case. The name of Velasquez’s attorney was not immediately available.
