A Middle Island woman has been charged in the thefts of jewelry from residents of a Lake Grove nursing home in May and June, Suffolk County police said.

Staci McNair, 24, of Middle Island Road, was arrested Tuesday and charged with grand larceny, petty larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Police said McNair was employed as a housekeeper at Bristal Assisted Living on Middle Country Road and that an investigation by Fourth Squad detectives found that she had stolen numerous pieces of jewelry from eight residents’ rooms.

McNair was scheduled for arraignment Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.

A spokesman for Bristal released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying: “We are fully cooperating with the investigation being conducted by detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Fourth Precinct. All employees undergo a rigorous criminal background check; this employee had no previous criminal history. We provided investigators with a printout of all the key cards that had been used to enter the resident’s apartment, enabling Suffolk Police to make an arrest.”
