Driver crashes into pole in Rocky Point, flees scene, cops say

It was a hit-and-run crash that saw the driver literally run from the scene, police said.

Now Suffolk County Crime Section officers from the Seventh Precinct are investigating the crash, which occurred just after 11 p.m. Tuesday on Rocky Point Landing Road in Rocky Point.

A 2005 Ford Freestar minivan smashed into a utility pole, knocking down wires that then blocked the road. Police said the driver ran from the scene — and is being sought.

PSEG Long Island responded to the scene to make repairs.

It was not immediately known if service was disrupted as a result. It also was not known how long the road was closed after the crash.
