Driver in Roosevelt slashed, robbed at red light, police say

Two masked men armed with knives slashed and robbed a driver who was stopped at a red light late Thursday in Roosevelt and then took off with his car, Nassau County police said.

The victim was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of West Clinton Avenue and Nassau Road at about 10 p.m. when the two men with knives approached the car, police said.

The men reached through the open driver’s side window, cut the victim under his chin and on the arm and demanded money, according to a news release.

The victim got out of his car, and the two men took his cellphone and wallet, which contained cash and credit cards, and they then drove west on Clinton Avenue.

The victim ran away and was able to call police, who said they found the car abandoned on West Clinton Avenue just west of Nassau Road.

The driver, 46, was taken to a hospital, where he received stitches in his chin and was released, police said.

Anyone with more information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All information will be kept confidential.
