A Hempstead man has been charged with attempted murder after shooting another man during a drug deal that went bad, Nassau County police said.

Tylil McTootle, 28, of Dartmouth Street, was arrested Tuesday on charges stemming from the busted drug deal last Thursday in Massapequa, police said.

McTootle had arranged to buy marijuana from another man, who put the drugs in the backseat of McTootle’s car, police said.

McTootle started driving away without paying and the would-be seller jumped into the front seat, police said.

McTootle drove to the intersection of Fairfax Road and Gloucester Road, where he got out of the vehicle and ordered the other man out, police said.

“The defendant discharged a handgun multiple times and struck the victim in the right leg,” police said in a news release.

The victim was treated at a hospital and McTootle fled the scene, police said.

Police declined to say what led them to McTootle, or why the case was being handled by the Gang Investigations Squad.

McTootle was awaiting arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead on charges of attempted murder and weapon possession, police said.
