Two men made small talk with a woman walking her dog near her Garden City Park home Thursday then followed her inside to assault and rob her, Nassau County police said.
Police are looking for two men who took an unspecified amount of cash from the woman, 61, at about 8 p.m. on Hillside Drive South.
Detectives said the woman was outside her home with her dog when the two men approached and talked with her.
After she entered her home and attempted to lock a side door, one of the men grabbed her in a bear hug, police said.
The other man entered from another door, in the back, then both suspects “pushed the victim to the floor of a nearby bedroom, threatening to kill her if she turned around and looked at them,” police said.
A few minutes passed, then the victim, noticing a lack of noise in the house, called 911, police said.
After police conducted a search they found that money had been removed from an upstairs closet.
The woman was not injured, police said. She described the suspects as in their early 20s, with each being about 5-foot-10.
