Great Neck man arrested in pedestrian hit-run, police say

A Great Neck man driving a van in Manhasset on Wednesday struck a pedestrian, seriously injuring him, then fled the scene before returning, Nassau County police said.

Hossein Zamani, 77, of Redbrook Road, is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury.

The victim, 68, had internal injuries when he was hit at about 4:45 p.m. and was taken to a hospital where he was listed in serious condition, police said.

Homicide Squad detectives said Zamani was driving a 2005 Honda Odyssey van north on Community Drive near Pond Hill Road when he hit the victim, who was trying to cross the street.

Zamani left the scene but returned about an hour later and was arrested, police said.
