Southold man to be sentenced for attempted kidnapping in plea deal

A Southold man who tried to drag a woman into the woods will be sentenced next month for attempted kidnapping, Suffolk court records show.

Jose Amadeo Perez was indicted on second-degree kidnapping and first-degree attempted rape in November 2016, but in a deal with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to second-degree attempted kidnapping, according to online records.

“He decided to accept a plea bargain from the district attorney to resolve this matter,” said his attorney, Dave Geller of the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County.

Perez is scheduled to be sentenced March 5.

He was arrested Oct. 25, 2016, shortly after he threatened to rape and kill a woman and tried to drag her to a wooded area of Greenport, Southold police said.

Officers were alerted about 3 p.m. to a fight off Route 25, where a 27-year-old woman told them the stranger also had threatened her with cutting shears, police said.
