Gunman holds up cabbie in Uniondale, Nassau police say

Nassau detectives are searching for an armed robber who stole money from a cabdriver early Sunday morning, police said.

First Squad detectives said at about 3:50 a.m., a 64-year-old All Island Taxi cabdriver picked up a woman in Mineola and drove her to Uniondale.

The cabdriver dropped the woman off at 187 Maple Ave., and shortly after she paid and walked away, a man wearing a ski mask and gloves approached the driver, flashing a black handgun and demanding cash, police said.

Upon receiving an undetermined amount of money from the cabdriver, the gunman ran away in an unknown direction, police said.

The cabdriver drove back to All Island Taxi and called Nassau County Police. He described the alleged attacker as 5 feet, 9 inches tall.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477 (TIPS). All calls will remain anonymous.
