A Wainscott man was arrested and charged with drunken driving and drug possession after he crashed his sport utility vehicle into a utility pole in East Hampton on Tuesday, injuring himself and a passenger, police said.
The passenger, Carolina Leon, 23, of East Hampton, was in stable condition at Stony Brook University Hospital after being airlifted there, according to East Hampton Town police.
Police said the driver, Angel Tejada, 27, was arrested after treatment for minor injuries at Southampton Hospital.
Police said Tejada was driving his 2010 Honda Pilot southbound on Springs Fireplace Road near Queens Lane when he lost control just before 5 p.m. — and crashed into a utility pole. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and with unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.
Police said Tejada faces arraignment Wednesday.
The vehicle was impounded for safety checks.
