Suffolk County police are seeking the public's help

He burglarized two homes in Hauppauge last month, using garage-door remote controls he stole from unlocked vehicles to gain access to the houses, Suffolk County police said.

Now, police are asking the public’s help in locating the suspect — and they’ve released surveillance footage from a theft in progress.

Police said the two break-ins occurred at homes on Dale Court and Janet Court on April 22. In both cases, police said, residents were home, sleeping upstairs, when the man broke in, stealing cash and a pocketbook.

Police believe the same suspect may also be responsible for stealing items from unlocked vehicles in the area and are asking anyone with information about the crimes or the suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.

All calls will remain confidential.

Police are also advising residents to lock their vehicles and the entrances from their garages to their homes to avoid similar break-ins. Also recommended by police is that residents keep their garage remotes out of sight.

Police ask anyone who sees suspicious activity to call 911 or 631-852-COPS.
