A Hewlett man was arrested late Tuesday night and charged with committing three armed robberies at stores earlier this month in Hewlett and Valley Stream, police said.
Jason Shure, 25, of East Rockaway Road, was arrested during a traffic stop by Major Case Bureau detectives at Eagle Avenue and the Southern State Parkway in Lakeview about 11:20 p.m. Nassau County police said he was charged with three counts of first-degree robbery and three counts of second-degree robbery.
His arraignment was adjourned but his next court date was set for Thursday.
Police said Shure, wearing a helmet and mask, sunglasses and black, white and yellow gloves, entered The Barn store on Broadway in Hewlett at about 9:40 p.m. Nov. 2, lifting his sweatshirt to reveal a handgun to a female employee — then stealing an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. Police said he then fled on a black-and-white motorcycle.
On Nov. 4, police said, Shure entered the Rockaway Deli Mart on Rockaway Avenue in Valley Stream about 4:17 p.m., again wearing sunglasses and again lifting his sweatshirt to reveal a handgun. Police said he stole cash from the register and fled on foot.
Sunday, police said, Shure entered Kidz Stuff on Rockaway Avenue in Valley Stream just before 4 p.m. He again displayed a handgun tucked into his waist, police said, then demanded cash from the register. Cash in hand, he left through a rear door, got into a Ford Escape — and fled.
Based on information developed during their investigation, police said officers linked Shure to his home on East Rockaway Road but did not find him during a search of the residence. He was then tracked and subsequently stopped on Tuesday.
