An Inwood man was awaiting arraignment Saturday after being arrested in connection with an attempted knifepoint robbery in the hamlet, police said.
There were no injuries.
Tamel D. Brooks, 19, of Lawrence Avenue, is charged with attempted robbery and menacing.
Nassau County police said the attempted robbery occurred shortly after 5 p.m. April 28 when a male victim, 37, walking on Jeanette Avenue was approached by five suspects who asked him for money.
Police said one of the suspects displayed a knife and demanded all of the victim’s property, but a witness started trying to videotape the incident, and Brooks told one of the other suspects to shoot the witness.
The witness “backed away from the scene” and called police, authorities said, and the five suspects fled on foot.
Police said no proceeds were taken and that Brooks was located and placed under arrest on Redfern Avenue in Far Rockaway.
Brooks was arrested Friday, police said.
