A Uniondale man faces felony drunken-driving charges after State Police said they pulled him over for speeding early Friday on the Northern State Parkway in Lake Success.

At about 3:30 a.m., troopers stopped a gray Nissan Pathfinder for going 82 mph in a 55-mph zone on the parkway near Lakeville Road, according to a news release.

While interviewing the driver, Jaime Vargas, 44, troopers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, the release said.

Police said they also noticed Vargas had slurred speech and bloodshot watery eyes; Vargas failed sobriety tests and was arrested on drunken-driving charges.

Because Vargas has had a previous DWI conviction in the past 10 years and was restricted to driving a vehicle with an ignition interlock device, he was charged with felony drunken driving, use of a vehicle without an interlock device and traffic violations, police said.

His arraignment information at First District Court in Hempstead was not immediately available.
