Levittown woman arrested in 2012, ’16 burglaries, police say

Nassau County police arrested a Levittown woman on Friday afternoon in connection with two burglaries in the area.

Police said Dawn Zavala, 32, of Wantagh Avenue, first broke into a house on Wantagh Avenue on Dec. 8, 2012, through a side window and took some jewelry. The proceeds of that robbery were recovered by police.

Then, on April 25, 2016, police said Zavala broke the glass on a backdoor of a house on Rope Lane and took jewelry, electronics and tools.

The Major Case Bureau Burglary Pattern Team and Narcotics-vice Bureau detectives found Zavala in Woodbury and placed her under arrest at 4:10 p.m. During processing, Zavala “became agitated and attempted to strike a detective in the head with a can of soda,” police said. The detective was not injured.

Zavala was charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and one count of third-degree menacing. She is scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.

CORRECTION: Earlier versions of this story misstated when the suspect allegedly tried to strike the detective with a can of soda; it was during arrest processing. In addition, the story misstated the date of the first burglary, which was Dec. 8, 2012.
