LYNBROOK: Men charged with stealing new convertible

A Brooklyn man and a Pennsylvania man were arrested Saturday on charges they stole a new Infiniti G37 convertible from a dealership in Lynbrook, Nassau County police said.

Shawn C. Reid, 23, of Brooklyn, and Anthony Charles Spencer, 24, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., were arrested after police stopped them on suspicion of a traffic violation.

They were riding in a 3-year-old Infiniti with a Pennsylvania license plate but had the new car's key ring, owner's manual, floor mats and wheels, police detectives said.

Police valued the stolen car at $52,000.

The two were arrested Saturday on Canterbury Gate in Lynbrook about 12:20 a.m. after they stole a white 2010 G37 convertible from Legacy Infiniti, 855 Sunrise Hwy., according to police.

Lynbrook police spotted the two men driving the stolen car, but they stopped and ran away across Scranton Avenue toward Canterbury Gate.

Later, two other officers saw a 2007 Infiniti fail to signal a left turn and stopped, police said.

Both men were inside with the items stolen from the new Infiniti, police said.

Both were charged with one count of second-degree grand larceny and were scheduled to be arraigned in Hempstead Sunday.


BAY SHORE: Information sought on crash that injured pedestrian

Suffolk County police are investigating a crash that seriously injured a Bay Shore man Friday night.

Police said Mark Shumski, 47, of Bay Shore, was walking across Main Street in Bay Shore when he was struck at about 9:40 p.m. by a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse that was traveling west.

The driver of the Traverse, Merrie Bartlett, 52, of Brightwaters, was not injured.

Shumski was taken by ambulance to Southside Hospital, police said, where he was listed in critical condition with a head injury.
