A Uniondale man was arrested for stopping bystanders from helping a woman being stabbed at a bar by a gang member who was charged hours later with sexually abusing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter and stabbing the child’s mother, Nassau police said Friday.
Antony Almendarez, 24, of Braxton Street, was arraigned Friday on charges of first-degree assault and held on a bail of $500,000 bond or $250,000 cash, authorities said. A temporary order of protection was issued against him.
The woman suffered a collapsed lung after she was kicked and stabbed repeatedly in the parking lot of El Mariachi Loco Bar in Hempstead about 2:20 a.m. on March 22, prosecutors said.
Almendarez’ attorney could not be immediately reached Friday night.
Authorities charged MS-13 member Tommy Alvarado-Ventura, 31, of Hempstead, with the bar stabbing after they were called to his girlfriend’s apartment a few hours later.
There, officers found his girlfriend had been punched in the face and repeatedly stabbed, police said. Her daughter had also been beaten and sexually assaulted, requiring surgery, prosecutors said.
Alvarado-Ventura was charged in both stabbings and the attack on the girl.
