A man loading and unloading a shotgun in a home on Holbrook Street in North Patchogue accidentally shot a woman in the leg Thursday night, Suffolk County police said.

The woman was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for an injury that was not life threatening, Assistant Police Commissioner Justin Meyers said in a statement.

Meyers said the man, whom he did not identify, was charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree.
