A picture might be worth a prison sentence for a 24-year-old Ronkonkoma man who was arrested Tuesday after he was caught taking photographs underneath a woman’s dress at the Macy’s store at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, police said.

Scott Coleman, of Blythe Road, was charged with second-degree unlawful surveillance, a class E felony, which carries a maximum penalty of 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison.

Police said Coleman approached the woman from behind inside the Macy’s at about 8 p.m., taking photos “underneath her dress without her knowledge.”

Police said the woman became suspicious — and notified store security. An investigation confirmed Coleman had taken pictures of the woman, 23, police said.

He now faces arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Central Islip.

Police ask anyone with information about this case or anyone who believes they may be a victim of a similar crime to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
