A man was shot and seriously injured Thursday in Glen Cove, police said.

The 47-year-old man was struck by at least one bullet inside a garage in a building in the 200 block of Carney Street, near Hazel Street, police said.

Det. Capt. John Azzata, commanding officer of the Nassau County Police Homicide Squad, said Glen Cove police received a call for shots fired at 10:57 a.m. Officers responded and found the wounded man. He was rushed to a hospital and was in stable condition late Thursday.

“This individual was targeted,” Azzata said of the victim.

He wouldn’t comment on whether the shooter was in police custody, and didn’t say how many times the victim had been shot.

Police said they don’t yet know the motive for the shooting and were still conducting interviews.

Azzata said the victim — whose name was not released — is a resident of the building where the shooting took place.

A second person also was taken to the hospital in connection with the case, police said.

A female driver was hurt when she struck the right fender of a police vehicle as it responded to the shooting scene, police said.

The driver didn’t hear the lights and sirens on the vehicle, officials said, and suffered minor injuries.

She was taken to a hospital, police said.
