Suffolk County police charged a homeless man Saturday in connection with the shooting of another homeless man that afternoon in Port Jefferson Station.

Police said Alain Jean was charged with shooting a 22-year-old man multiple times during an argument about 12:35 p.m. outside a home at 25 Union Ave.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.

Jean, also 22, was charged with first-degree assault and is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip Sunday morning. His bail information was unavailable.

Detectives from the Sixth Squad are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call anonymously to Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
