Officers responding to a call of a crime in progress in Massapequa early Tuesday located and arrested a Lynbrook man, charging him criminal possession of stolen property, police said.
Mark Yanega, 33, of Hempstead Avenue, was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
Nassau County police said that Yanega was arrested on Hicksville Road at about 4:30 a.m. after a brief foot pursuit.
Officers said Yanega was carrying a plastic bag when he was spotted and that inside the bag were proceeds from break-ins of two unlocked vehicles — one on Massapequa Avenue, the other on Roosevelt Place. The proceeds included a driver’s license, cash, a railroad pass, gift cards and two credit cards.
Police said the arrest followed a call for “a larceny in progress” on Massapequa Avenue and a canvas by the Seventh Precinct officers who responded.
Arraignment details were not available.
