Nassau County police charged a man with stealing tools from a Farmingdale construction site early Saturday morning.

Police said they arrested Michael J. Gordon, 35, who is homeless, after he triggered an alarm while entering an apartment building under construction at 231 Main St.

Witnesses told responding officers they saw a man flee through an opening in a fence carrying two bags of tools, police said in a news release.

Nassau police said they found Gordon on South Front Street and arrested him at 2:45 a.m. They said they recovered the tools.

Gordon was charged with burglary and scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
