Mom, daughter charged in assault on bicyclist, cops say

A mother and daughter from Ridge were charged with assaulting a bicyclist near a gas station in Flanders after ramming her with a minivan, according to Southampton Town police.

On April 11, the victim, a woman riding a bicycle, was knocked to the ground by the minivan, police said. Allison Cowell, 34, then used a baseball bat to “repeatedly hit” the victim, while Cowell’s mother, Patricia Seymour, 61, of Ridge, kept bystanders from helping the woman.

The 30-year-old Riverhead victim, who had been engaged in a “dispute” with the mother and daughter, was taken to Peconic Medical Center and treated for her injuries, police said.

Both mother and daughter were charged with second-degree assault, according to police. Additionally, Cowell faces criminal possession of a weapon charges and a Southampton Town bench warrant.

They were arraigned May 12 at Southampton Town Justice court, police said.
