Two Queens men were arrested Sunday morning and charged with a string of larcenies from vehicles after a resident of Roslyn Heights saw a man open the door of her husband’s car in the driveway of their home, police said.
Nassau County police said the man and an accomplice were found to have stolen items from three other vehicles earlier in the day in Roslyn Heights and Albertson, and from two vehicles in Roslyn Heights on Aug. 31.
Mateo Leon, 20, and Syed Montasir Rahman, 18, both Jamaica residents, were awaiting arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead on multiple counts of grand larceny, petty larceny, possession of stolen property and identify theft, police said.
Police said a search of a 2016 Nissan Ultima driven by Leon was found to contain multiple items purchased Saturday with a stolen credit card.
Officers went to the home on Shepherd Lane after the 58-year-old homeowner called 911 at 2:09 a.m. to report the man in her driveway, and another man trying to open the doors of a neighbor’s car, police said.
Officers searched the area and arrested the two men without incident in nearby Albertson, police said.
