Nassau County police released a photo Sunday night of a vehicle they believe was involved in a hit and run that seriously injured a pedestrian Friday morning in Thomaston.

Homicide squad detectives said that shortly before 10 a.m. Friday, a 43-year-old man was trying to cross Middle Neck Road at Barstow Road when a vehicle traveling southbound struck him and left the scene.

The pedestrian suffered multiple trauma injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he was in serious condition, police said.

Witnesses described the vehicle involved in the hit and run as a gray or bluish gray Nissan Rogue. The vehicle pictured in the photo appears to be of a similar color, make and model, with damage apparent on its front right passenger side. Police did not say whether they suspect the hit and run collision with the pedestrian caused the damage.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 800-224-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
