Oakdale man charged with hate crime assault, NYPD says

An Oakdale man has been charged with felony assault as a hate crime after the NYPD said he shouted slurs before attacking two women in Queens Friday.

Police said Patrick O’Meara, 38, got into a verbal dispute with two women on 82nd Street in Jackson Heights and used expletives about females and sexual orientation during the confrontation.

He then threw one of the women to the ground, punched her and injured her leg, police said.

O’Meara was arrested Friday just after 5 p.m. a few blocks away at Baxter Avenue and 82nd Street in Elmhurst, a NYPD spokeswoman said. He was arraigned Saturday and now is in Creedmoor Psychiatric Center awaiting mental evaluation, NYPD said. The two victims were taken to Long Island Jewish Forest Hills hospital. Details on their conditions were not released Saturday afternoon.
