Nassau County police have arrested a West Hempstead woman and a Long Beach man in connection with a December beating and robbery of a woman in her East Hills driveway.

A woman, 52, was unloading packages in her driveway at her house on Peacock Drive in East Hills on Dec. 12, 2015, at about 5:30 p.m. when a man approached her and demanded her jewelry, police said. After a struggle, police said, he began to punch the woman in the face until she gave him her rings.

He then grabbed her purse and ran. The victim told police she followed him and saw him get into a dark car that traveled south on Peacock Road.

Police announced the arrests in connection with the case on Saturday. Patricia Bertone, 52, of 670 Wall St., West Hempstead, was arraigned Friday on charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and second-degree hindering prosecution.

Robert Gunsberg, 55, of 224 E. Market St., Long Beach, is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday on charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and obstruction of breathing at First District Court in Hempstead.

Bertone’s bail was set at $25,000 bond, $15,000 cash at First District Court, according to court records.
