A 19-year-old woman walking along South Broadway, Route 107, in Hicksville on Monday night was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver later charged with DWI, Nassau police said.

Police said the victim suffered serious internal and head injuries and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

Her name has not been released.

The driver, Gurvinder Talwar, 61, of 21 Boxwood Lane, Farmingdale, was behind the wheel of a gray 2014 Honda CRV, heading southbound on Broadway when he struck her around 10:15 p.m., Nassau police said.

The victim crossed the roadway into the west shoulder and was hit while standing in front of 311 South Broadway, police said.

Police said Talwar left the scene, but a witness helped track him down a short time later.

Talwar was arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead and, in addition to a charge of drunken driving, he was charged with vehicular manslaughter in the second degree, leaving the scene of a fatal accident and failure to comply with a lawful order.

Police said they are still investigating the case.
