Pokemon cards stolen from Toys R Us, Suffolk police say

Suffolk County police are looking for a man, seen on surveillance video, who stole Pokemon trading cards from the Toys R Us in Lake Grove. Police said the theft took place at the store on Middle Country Road at about 12:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016. Photo Credit: SCPD

While players around the world were busy chasing Squirtles and Snorlax, Golbats, Dragonites and Jigglypuffs in recent weeks in electronic pursuit of the ultimate prize in Pokemon Go, a man walked into a Toys R Us store in Lake Grove — and, police said, stole 10 packs of old-school Pokemon trading cards.

But holy Pikachu, Hitmonchan.

Suffolk County cops said the man was captured on video surveillance in the store, leaving enough intelligence gathering information to please a Vespiquen. And police want to know if the public — and that includes any Pokemon trainers out there — recognize the suspect.

Police said the theft took place at the store on Middle Country Road at about 12:50 p.m. June 11.

They said the man wore glasses and had an identification badge hanging around his neck.

He also drove away in a silver or gray in Toyota RAV4.

So don’t be a Psyduck. Or Slowbro. Call on the wit of Alakazam. And if you have any information, police ask that you call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will remain confidential.

You won’t qualify to win any versions of Pokemon Go — you won’t even collect any of the creatures players are searching for — but you could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to an arrest.
