Shots fired early Saturday at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore prompted a lockdown of the facility as police investigated the incident, police and hospital officials said.

Suffolk County police officers were called to the hospital on East Main Street after a call was made at 5:50 a.m., a police spokeswoman said. Shots were fired, but no one was injured, the spokeswoman said.

Officers arrested John Gamble, 35, of Riverhead. It was determined that he fired multiple rounds from a 9 mm handgun, police said.

Gamble was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment. He was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Jason Molinet, a spokesman for Northwell Health, the health-care network that includes the hospital, said the hospital lockdown was lifted at 8 a.m. after the shots were fired in the parking lot.
